Abstract

The article considers genre features of horror stories. The objective of the study is to consider the genre features of initial (IT) and derived (DT) texts of horror stories. It is still acute to address the nature of initial / derived text, because the turn of the 20th - 21st centuries is characterized by the introduction of horror stories created / processed / interpreted by the authors. In the course of the analysis of initial and derived texts of horror stories, there have been revealed their common genre features: horror stories are of small size, based on one plot line, the characters are preschool or primary school children and teenagers. In a number of cases the same title is found in ITs and DTs, which is most likely due to the fact that the stories are familiar to many people, they are readily communicated from one generation to another, they are not boring and continue to excite the imagination of young readers / listeners. Thus, there is no need for experiment or novelty. Death, a series of deaths is not perceived in horror stories as a tragedy, but is taken for granted. All texts have a fairy-tale character, manifested not only in triple repetitions, but also in «indispensable» evil, a hardship that falls to the lot of heroes, fairy tale / mysterious / inexplicable (at least, in their behavior) villain-like characters.
