Abstract

The word “toxic” is actively used in the modern Russian and Chinese languages. Nowadays, this word attracts linguists’ special interest. The article examines the usage of the word “toxic” among the native Russian and Chinese speakers and provides a comparative analysis of its figurative and evaluative meanings in the Russian and Chinese languages. The author identifies differrences in the meanings of this adjective in the semantic, cognitive and socio-psychological aspects. The study helps to reveal the common and the special in the perception and expression of the adjective “toxic” in the Russian and Chinese linguo-cultures.
