Abstract
It is important to examine the extent which special education interventions are effective in terms of practical significance. However, because, until now, domain statistical practice in the area of special education is frequentist statistics, there are some limitations of investigating practical significance. In this paper, bayesian statistics was considered as an alternative approach for investigating practical significance. Bayesian statistics is a method of statistics inference in which proability is the most important concept. Therefore, it allows us to focus on the importance of practical significance in special education research. This paper provided the basic concepts of the bayesian statistics and then use a practical example on how to evaluate the effectiveness of special education intervention using bayesian statistics. Results of this study support the evidence that bayesian statistics could be one of alternative approaches for evaluating the effects of interventions in the area of special education. Finally, considerations for future research are discussed.
