Abstract
This scientific article is devoted to the theme of modality. The main purpose of the article is to research of the state of modality in the field of linguistics. The factors of the relevance of our research are conceptual, key issues in the category of modality of general linguistics and we achieve such specific conclusions. The object of our scientific research in the study of modality for the first time began to study only in the 50s of the XX cent. by prominent foreign and Russian scientists. The questions of the category of modality are considered in detail by linguists, but in the works of the named researchers we can’t find a clear definition of modality. Taken results can serve as theoretical material in the preparation of textbooks and lecture course texts in these areas.
