Abstract

The article reveals the relevance of safety research at a conceptual level. It detects the psychological content of concepts (“Safety”, “Danger”, “Defence”), forming the lexical-semantic field “Safety”. It is proved that the studies of separate concepts lose their effectiveness as they do not express the fullness of ideas about the phenomenon under study, which leads to the need to consider these concepts together. The article contains the comparative analysis of semantics of the words used for verbalization of the concepts in Russian and English languages. It is established that the considered concepts have ethnocultural features, expressed by asymmetry of representation of lexical units and their meanings in the comparable languages. It is found that there is similarity in the functioning of the concepts in the minds of Russian and English native speakers. So, along with an understanding of safety in the physical plane, there is understanding of its psychological content in both linguistic worldviews.
