Abstract
अथ खलु भारतदेशेऽस्मिन् विराजन्ते प्राचीनकालादारभ्य शास्त्राणि । तत्र कालविधायकं त्रिस्कन्धात्मकं ज्योतिषं मूर्ध्निस्थाने तिष्टति । तत्र च सिद्धान्तस्कन्धे गणितभागस्य महत्वं वरीवर्ति। अत्र व्यवहारार्थं उपयुज्यमानं अङ्कगणितं कल्पसूत्रस्य अङ्गत्वेन शुल्बसूत्रस्य च उपाङ्गत्वेन निरूपितः ज्यामितिः तथा खगोलशास्त्रगणनार्थमुपयुज्यमानं गणितं विकासमवाप्य “गणितशास्त्रम्” इति विख्यातम् ।तत्र शून्यस्य विचारे भारतीयानां योगदानं विशिष्ठं वर्तते । शून्यं नाम किमपि नास्ति अथवा मौल्यरहितम् इति अर्थः । मौल्यराहित्यं गणितशास्त्रे कथम् प्रमुखं पात्र वहति इति इतिहासे गणितसिद्धान्तानम् अध्ययनं कृतवतां गणितशास्त्रज्ञानाम् आश्चर्यजनकः प्रश्नः । अतः अस्मिन् शोधपत्रे शून्यसम्बद्धाः शास्त्रोक्तविचाराः निरूपिताः वर्तन्ते ।
