Abstract

The article deals with the issue of formation and development of a personality as a competent specialist who is able to meet the needs of the state and society. The modern world proves that the quality of services provided directly depends on the specialist who provides this service, namely on the level of his or her professional competence. Society is increasingly imbued with the idea of humanizing education, and it leads to fundamentally new changes in the role and professional functions of the teacher. The range of professions and specialties is becoming wider, but special attention and significance in professional improvement and advanced training are still needed in the «man-to-man» type of profession. Investigating the influence of professional competence on the socio-economic development of society, the author reveals the essential characteristics of such concepts like «personal development», «professional development of the individual», «professional competence», «modern specialist». Some historical examples of socio-economic changes of the XXth century in different countries are given and proved their dependence on the development of education, specialists' training and their professional development. Hence, we can conclude that the modern specialist is faced with the need to constantly improve his or her professional competence, gain new knowledge, enrich and deepen them. The information revolution is taking place in all spheres of life now, and a new information society is being formed. With the help of the Internet, modern people have an opportunity to communicate all over the world, so awareness and mastery of information technologies becomes a priority task and foreground for the development of education, and information competence becomes the basic for all specialists, regardless of the industry. In terms of informatization of education, the paradigm of pedagogical science is changing, the structure and content of education has been corrected, which should be constantly revised and improved. The development and active use of computer and information technologies are becoming an urgent basis for the development of socio-economic society,which is called information, that is, one in which the majority of specialists are not only concerned with the production, preservation, processing and implementation of information, but also its higher form – knowledge.
