Abstract

The article analyzes the peculiarities of conceptual metaphor as a means of utterance cohesion in the coherent text. This kind of metaphor is the case of mapping of the target domain and the source domain, transition from the familiar and concrete to the unfamiliar and abstract. The conceptual metaphor forming presupposes the actualization of the author’s meaning, i.e. the integration of extra textual information which in its turn creates the cohesive character of the separate utterance in the coherent text.
