Abstract

This paper studies the Persian definiteness markers and where they are used in contrast with the English definite article and where it is used in an educational aspect. Based on Liu & Gleason(2002), the placement of most Persian definiteness markers (ra after direct object, bare noun, suffix -e in colloquial Persian) matches that of their English equivalent. Therefore English examples with the definite marker, which is familiar to Korean learners can be used in Persian classes as an effective way for new learners of Persian to readily learn the language.
