Abstract

As the residents of long-term rental apartment houses have lived long and got older, they are tend to have dementia or cognitive health problems. Therefore, the renovation for them should be done on the base of consideration of old residents. On these backgrounds, Seoul design policy division carried out Design Renovation Project for Improving Cognitive Health to long-term public rental apartment complex. This study was intended to evaluate the design renovation for common areas in long-term rental apartment complex through the middle-aged and the elderly residents. The renovation was carried out to support the cognitive health of their old residents, including the middle-aged ones. The subjects were the indoor and outdoor common areas in S long-term public rental apartment complex and 85 residents. The renovation items were consisted of 49 elements in 6 indoor and outdoor common areas. The one to one interview method and the self-administrative method were selectively used. This renovation project had positive effect on their residents’ living. The residents were generally using the renovated common areas more often and conveniently. Also they were satisfied with the renovated common areas.
