Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the effect of an educational program based on dialogue and discussion strategies on developing intellectual security concepts. To achieve this, the researcher tried to answer the following questions: What is intellectual security; what are dialogue and discussion strategies upon which the program will be built; what is the educational program to be built in the light of the strategies; and what is the effect of the program on developing intellectual security concepts? To answer these questions, an educational program in the Islamic course was built in the fifth and sixth unit for grade ten school students in the second semester of the academic year 2014/ 2015. This program, which was based on dialogue and discussion strategies, was taught in 12 lessons in six weeks i.e. two lessons each week. After that, the program was validated by reviewers. The study sample included 180 female students from grade ten in Amman. The effect of the educational program on developing intellectual security concepts in Islamic education was assessed by using a questionnaire which measured the intellectual security concepts. The questionnaire was developed by the researcher in the light of the theoretical literature and related studies. The results showed statistically significant differences due to the use of dialogue and discussion strategies in the educational program; and in the light of these results the study offered a set of recommendations.
