Abstract

The aim of the paper is to identify the key aspects of the pragmatic theory of literature and its applicability in the study of contemporary works and trends in literary process during the period of qualitative revision of the traditional theory of literature. Since the end of the 2010s, in literary criticism, tendencies of negative perception of prospects for the development of the theory of literature as a whole have been noted, which is due to the transition to the post-deconstruction era. In this regard, there is a need to search for new directions for understanding literary heritage and analysing trends in literary process at the present stage. One of them is the pragmatic theory of literature, which emerged in the 2010s as a reaction to the need for radical rethinking of approaches to the study of literature in general. The scientific novelty of the paper lies in a comprehensive study of the problem of the development of the pragmatic theory of literature as a factor in modern literary science. As a result, it is proved that the pragmatic aspects of modern literature reflect the features of modern communication and create opportunities for interaction between the author and the reader.
