Abstract

The article considers approaches to the assessment of the protective forest plantations spatial position using GIS technologies. Protective forest plantations perform an important protective function, reducing the negative impact of droughts, dry winds and dust storms, which is relevant against the background of regional features in climate change on the Stavro-pol Territory. The studies were carried out on the territory of the Budennovsky (arid zone) and Izobilnensky (unstable moistening zone) districts. Using the remote sensing data of the Earth, arable land area was clarified, and it was established that in the Budennovsky district the protective forestation of the arable land is below the recommended level, while in the Izo-bilnensky district it is at the optimal level. The spatial analysis of the protective forest planta-tions made it possible to identify the non-optimality of their location on the territory of the Budennovsky district. In the Budennovsky district, only 5% of the main protective forest stands are located at recommended distances relative to each other. The position analysis of the main protective forest plantations in the Budennovsky district depending on the direction of the prevailing winds showed that 90% of them are not optimally located, reducing their ef-fectiveness by 15-35%. High reliability of the results obtained using remote sensing data of the Earth and GIS technologies for spatial analysis of protective forest plantations is noted. The results of the study indicate the existing problems in the system of protective forest plan-tations in certain areas of the Stavropol Territory. The proposed approaches can be effectively used for spatial analysis of protective for-est plantations and serve as the basis for restoration of existing and designing new protective forest stands.
