Abstract
This article is devoted to the analysis of word formation in Russian and English languages. New words appear with the development of economy, politics, industry and other spheres of life in Russian and English languages. One of their productive ways of word formation is the abbreviation. This problem is important today because abbreviation as the way of word formation helps to reduce the speech flow of words, to make lexical units more communicative and comfortable.
