Abstract

In this paper, I classify the green-tourism activities in Japan via model-based cluster analysis. The purpose of this classification is the following point. The types of green tourism in Japan are various because green tourism makes use of culture, tradition and natural resources in each town. And it hasn't taken long time until green tourism started, therefore the definition of green-tourism seems to be ambiguous. Hence I classify green-tourism activities in Japan in order to summarize and recognize them. Moreover, I apply to Model-based cluster analysis, by which it is possible to systematically decide the number of clusters and the method of clustering by statistical approach although commonly used cluster analysis applied in practice depends on arbitrary of a researcher.Consequently, seven clusters are obtained. At the end of this paper, I characterize these clusters depended on a variety of green-tourism activity aspects.
