Abstract

The article is devoted to studying one of the most relevant problems in the Adyghe folkloristics - the specificity of the female bogatyr image in the historical and heroic epos. The author focuses on identifying its origin, role and influence on storyline development and describes the functional and semantic peculiarities of this type of personages. The comparative-typological analysis leads to the conclusion that the female bogatyr image was formed at the subsequent stage of the younger epos period as a result of the combination of archaic folklore elements with the motives of later origin.
