Abstract

The article is devoted to one of the cycles of the Ossetian Nart sagas - Uryzmag and Satana cycle, the problems of the storyline development and the cycle formation are considered. Within the cycle the author identifies the motives productive for the storyline development of the Ossetian epos in general. Special attention is paid to such cycle-formative factor as characters’ images. There is special Uryzmag and Satana cycle in the Ossetian Nart sagas, but these epic heroes exist and act nearly in all the tales, which are beyond their own cycle. It leads the author to the conclusion that the unclosed cycle can be considered as a story-formative phenomenon in the context of the whole epos.
