Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between career interest types and academic performance of college students. First, as a result of analyzing the difference between male and female college students for each type, career interest types were different according to gender. And distribution orders of each career interest type within the two groups showed significant differences. In the male student group: investigative type was the highest, social type was the second highest, and artistic type was the lowest. On the other hand, unlike male students, in the female student group: social type was the highest, artistic type was the next and investigative type was the lowest. According to the analysis of gender differences in career interest type scores, there were significant differences in all five types except for investigative type. Male students were higher than female just in realistic type and female students had significantly higher scores in realistic type, artistic type, social type, enterprising type and conventional type. As a result of analyzing the differences in academic performance according to the career interest type, it was found that artistic type students in the entire college student group and male student group showed significantly lower academic performance than other types in calculus, so special guidance measures and teaching methods are needed to improve their learning abilities.
