Abstract
In Japan, truck transportation which has been important on logistics has such environmental problems as exhaust gas, traffic jams, shortage of drivers, and so on. Then Modal Shift from truck to another transportation has provoked a great deal of controversy in several places. In this paper, the author studied on a modal shift from truck to Middle/Long-Distance Ferryboat Services effective to the problem of truck transportation with the linear discriminant function. Firstly the author showed a linear discriminant function of the difference of distance and cost between ferryboat and truck route, the items of cargo, and so on. According to the function, the author proposed some ferryboat routes effective to modal shift and the extent of improvement in environmental problems.
