Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to justify the disclosure of the importance of distinguishing the concepts of “digital technology”, “information technology” (IT) and “information and communication technology” (ICT) in forensics. Based on a comprehensive understanding of these phenomena, researchers can avoid confusion, ensure clarity of communication, and improve the quality and relevance of a particular research paper. The paper discusses the definitions, scope and implications of each concept, emphasising their distinctive features and possibilities of interrelationship. The paper also draws attention to the importance of using precise terms in research that can build the basic conceptual apparatus of research.
