Abstract

This brief report describes the test results for the repository simulation test which is proposed and organized by the Commissions of European Comunities. There were three options of the test medium; granite, clay and salt, and the leaching experiments of granite option were carried out by 10 different laboratories of 9 countries under contolled temperature of 90°C for up to one year. The simulated waste glass was used together with backfill materials, crushed granite and underground water. The results suggested that the most suitable element to indicate the net dissolution of waste glass was B or Mo. The results also indicated that the statistical error among the 10 laboratories were in the range of 20-60% for B, Mo, Li and Cs.The EC commissions summarized from these results that the test procedure was practically valid and the data would be more appropriate for use in safety assessments.
