Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to classify the subjectivity (acceptance perception) of Korean male footballers’ leisure constraint.<BR> Method: By using Q methodology, 25 Q-samples and 40 P-samples were selected. Q-factor analysis was conducted using PQmethod (ver.2.35) and each extracted factor (type) was interpreted with Q-samples that have Z-score of ± 1.0 or higher.<BR> Results: First, <Type I: Lack of Support> accepted the lack of education, programs and information related to leisure activities as leisure constraints. Second, <Type II: Psychological Anxiety> was characterized by negative gazes on leisure activities, risk of injury and condition due to participation in leisure activities and stress of re-contract issues. Third, <Type III: Space-time constraint> strongly accepted the limited space-time from camp training as leisure constraints.<BR> Conclusion: This study overcame the limitations of previous studies that were biased to the traditional methodology, and contributed to the identification of types and characteristics of leisure constraints according to the characteristics of footballers. In particular, this study complemented academic discussions on retirement , learning rights and camp training of athletes from each type, and provided practical implications such as policy and institutional improvement measures.
