Introduction. In recent years, the world's population has been concerned about events related to large-scale use of weapons for solving political problems. Human is the main actor in the armed struggle. He or she must master modern weapon systems and manage military formations in the conduct of their battles, operations and other actions.Purpose. The purpose of the article is to determine ways to improve the system of training specialists whose activities are related to the armed defense of the state. The inadequacy of training specialists stems from the analysis of the results of armed struggle in the war between Ukraine and Russia and other conflicts. Experience has shown that there are other persons who are not members of the military formations of ministries and departments of the Security and Defense Sector but they participate in the armed struggle except officers, ensigns, sergeants (senior officers) and soldiers. Ukraine`s aspirations to join NATO and to integrate into the European Union demands a new look at the educational process in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.Methods. The main methods are analysis, synthesis, comparison and systematization of scientific sources on the issue of professional training of military specialists and the formation of the competence of military personnel in general educational institutions and higher military educational institutions; classification and systematization of theoretical data; specification of theoretical and practical knowledge, and training of specialists; induction and deduction, comparative analysis of obtained theoretical materials on the theory of military training and its implementation in the training of specialists for armed struggle in higher military educational institutions.Results. The main ways of improving the system of military education should provide training for specialists on a unified theoretical basis, to eliminate differences in the theory and practice of the use of weapons and equipment, as well as the management of military formations. The first is to introduce the study of the foundations of military science and its main field – military art in the programs of general education institutions with the acquisition of practical skills related to the peculiarities of service in the Army. The second is to create training systems for scientific and pedagogical workers and teachers in the military science and its branches, as it is envisaged for the preparation of teachers in the study of students of biology, physics, mathematics, etc. The training of scientific and pedagogical workers and teachers must be carried out in two stages. The first stage is the training of a specialist in a higher military educational institution of the relevant specialty. The second stage is the training of a military teacher. Thirdly, it is necessary to create a subsystem of military education in the educational system, which would ensure the full acquisition of systematized, structured and integrated knowledge of military arts by specialists. The subsystem of military education should include: training young people in the armed defense of the state; training of soldiers; training of sergeant and senior officers; training of ensigns and midshipmen; training of tactical level military commanders; training of officers, generals and admirals of military operational level management; training of officers, generals and admirals of state and military strategic level management; training of civil servants of state and military authorities, which is carried out at the courses of advanced training of the corresponding level. The fourth – to create a quality educational and material base, this would be constantly updated and consistent with the development of military arts. The basis of the educational and material base of any educational institution should be textbooks, other teaching materials, as well as weapons samples.Originality. The authors of the article proposed approaches aimed at eliminating differences in the theory and practice of the use of weapons and technology, as well as the management of military formations. The subsystem of training specialists for armed defense of the state will be adapted to the general system of education of the state and will be based on the constitutional duty of citizens. Proposing ways will help to eliminate repetitions in the training at all stages of professional development and reduce the general term of training for 1-1, 5 years. Conclusion. The purpose of the article is achieved. Directions for improvement of the educational process, preparation of teachers for general educational institutions and scientific and pedagogical workers for higher educational institutions are discontinued on the basis of results achieved by the authors.
