Abstract

The article deals with studying the history of Ukrainian anthroponomy (the first people, who started researching in this sphere, the time, when the linguists started studying onomastics). The author of the article has analysed the main works by prominent scientists, who conducted pioneer research in the Ukrainian name study; has shown that anthroponyms were researched in different aspects: territorial, structural (word-building), historical, from the point of view of using anthroponyms in an official / unofficial way, synchronism and diachrony. She has also described the beginning of lexicographical stage in Ukrainian anthroponomy, has mentioned the main lexicographers and their dictionaries ( for example, the first dictionary written by O. Tulub in 1928 and the most informative dictionary written by I. Dey in 1969); has described these dictionaries taking into account their structure, mentioned modern stage in lexicography. In addition new ways in studying Ukrainian anthroponomy have been described in the article: at the beginning of the 21st century scientists found a new range of interests such as various aspects of unofficial anthroponyms. For instance, N. Pavlykivska studies soldiers’ and artists’ pseudonyms, O. Petrova compares Ukrainian and German pseudonyms; G. Arkushyn, R. Ostash, O. Antoniuk, B. Blyzniuk and other linguists study nicknames). Nowadays there are a lot of scientists, who analyse Internet nicknames, develop theoretical aspects such as creating definitions, classifications and semantic parallels, and practice different methods of investigating words. At present nicknames are studied by Ukrainian linguists G. Hodorenko, M. Chabanenko, N. Yaroshenko, T. Karpova and others. In conclusion the author of the article suggests, that there are several questions, which wait for being researched such as making a general classification, studying more groups of unofficial anthroponomy (e.g. sportsmens’ pseudonyms) and creating new special dictionaries. Key words: Ukrainian anthroponymy, surname, pseudonym, nickname, antroponyms list.
