Abstract

Upgrading and improving secondary education is one of the government’s long-term strategic goals, which is reflected in the educational reforms that are being promoted from time to time. In this context, an alternative form of education is being introduced, which is provided by the use of new technologies, distance education. In this paper, the bibliographic review attempts to clarify concepts related to distance education, to highlight its development, its forms, the existing technology, as well as the possibilities and factors of its integration in the educational process, its advantages and disadvantages. At the same time, the research effort aims to investigate the perceptions of secondary school teachers regarding the necessity, usefulness and effectiveness of the integration of distance education. The research was based on the use of a questionnaire on a sample of 120 teachers. The main conclusions that emerged are that the contribution of distance education to the educational process is really important and its role in the enrichment of the traditional live teaching is valuable. However, efforts are still needed from all sides, the state, the teachers, the students, so that its integration can be implemented successfully.
