Abstract

This study examined the operation status of private small libraries in Incheon Metropolitan City and suggested development plans, and a total of 22 expert group interviews were conducted from January 28 to February 8, 2024. As a result of the study, first, the respondents often established small libraries to expand the leisure space of local residents. Second, although the satisfaction level of the library operation was moderate, there were deep concerns about the lack of support budget, operating manpower, and the low usage rate of local residents. Third, most of the respondents said that the biggest function of the small library is to contribute to the promotion of the reading culture of local residents, and the most important function of the current small library is to promote the reading culture of local residents, and various reading-related programs are operated. Fourth, the type of support received from government agencies and local governments was the largest amount of support for collections, and what was needed for the continued operation of small libraries was the expansion of the support budget of local governments, and fifth, there were many opinions that they hoped that the operation of small libraries would be operated as a place to provide a gathering place for local residents.
