Abstract

A meme is a complex formation where the verbal and nonverbal parts form a visual, structural, semantic and functional whole in order to influence the addressee. This article describes Internet-memes from the point of view of the theory of linguocreativity. The aim of the study is to reveal the linguistic and creative possibilities of language in Internet memes. In addition, the author of this work focuses on the analysis of possible difficulties that prevent an adequate understanding of Russian-speaking and English-speaking Internet memes. One of the manifestations of linguistic creativity is playing with language. The language game is based on humor and a comic beginning. The practical implementation of the language game in Internet memes is diverse and manifests itself by highlighting at the lexical, phraseological, graphic and stylistic levels. Linguistic creativity is considered on the example of Internet-memes which were selected by a continuous sampling method from the social networks “Vkontakte”, “Instagram”, “Twitter”. As a result of the research, the author came to the conclusion that Internet-memes are an example of linguistic creativity which manifests itself in the form of language and interlanguage games.
