Abstract

With the enactment of the Special Act on the Improvement and Support of Old Planned Cities in 2023, we faced a new change in the urban structure, starting with the first new city that was conducted to solve the problem of housing shortage. In urban development aimed at solving the problem of simple housing shortage in the past, it is argued that a new paradigm is needed that reflects the purpose of public design aimed at improving the quality of life of individuals, ensuring national dignity, and basic security. This study is a basic study on reflecting urban development plans in the field of public design that were overlooked in the initial planning stage. The purpose of this study is to examine the development trends of cities in Korea and to analyze the current status and direction of public design promotion plans in four representative cities in each period. Based on the contents of this study, we would like to conduct a follow-up study reflecting this in the future to suggest ways to diversify the public design system that should be applied differently depending on the structural background and development method that our city can accept.
