Abstract
The article examines the current state of democratic civilian control in the security and defense sector of Ukraine and looks at the prospects for its improvement. It is noted that the system of democratic civilian control over the security and defense sector of Ukraine is in the process of becoming. It is emphasized that the creation of a truly legal democratic state where parliamentarians and political leaders feel accountable to voters, listening to the views of civil society is an objective precondition for the implementation of effective democratic civilian control over the security and defense sector. At the same time it is noted that strengthening the Verkhovna Rada’s control powers, improving the legislation on state secrets, and ensuring the openness of the state budget will contribute to the improvement of the system of democratic civilian control over the security and defense sector of Ukraine.
