Abstract

This study aims at figuring out differences between motivation of participation, sensation-seeking, and sports commitment of extreme sports participants and verifyingr elations between them. In order to achieve the purpose, convenience sampling was conducted on total 420 adults men and women with 20-year-old and higher age who participate regularly in extreme sports club activity in Seoul, Gyeonggi, and Gangwon. The collected data was tested with suitability and except for 20 sheets, total 400 questionnaire sheets were selected as the final data and used for the data analysis, and the following results were deduced. First, for motivation of participation of extreme sports participants, sub-elements of esnsation-seeking, thrill and adventure-seeking were affected by Inner motivation (development of skill and joy ) and external motivation (socializing, sense of achievement, health, and physical ability). Experience-seekingw as affected on development of skills of internal motivation. And boredom susceptibility was affected by external motivation(external-ostentation) and nonmotivation. Disinhibition was affected by internal motivation(joy) and external motivation (external-ostentation, socializing, health, and physical ability) and non-motivation. Second, for motivation of participation of extreme sports participants, sub-element of sports commitments, recogntiion commitment was affected by internal motivation (joy and skill development) and non-motivation whileb ehavior motivation was affected by internal motivation (joy and skill development) and external motivation (socializing and external-ostentation). Third, for sensation-seeking of extreme sports participants, sub-elements of sports commitment, recognition commitment was affected by thrill, adventure-seeking, and experience-seeking while behavior-commitment was affected by thrill and adventure-seeking.
