Abstract

The purpose of this study is to explore the current state of research on metaverse in each academic field using text mining. For this purpose, the study analyzed 454 abstracts of journal articles dealing with metaverse according to each academic filed. Keyword frequency analysis, keyword network analysis, and topic modeling were used as text mining techniques. Results were as follows: First, 'education' was an important keyword based on the TF-IDF value regardless of academic fields, which indicates that metaverse is highly related with education in most academic fields. Second, 'technical' and 'virtual' were located at the center of keyword network in most academic fields, which indicates that these keywords play a mediating role among other keywords. However, 'education', which was an important keyword based on the TF-IDF value, was not high in keyword network. It means that while education is important that most academic fields concern, the relation degree with other keywords is not strong enough. Third, topic modeling shows that hot topic in each academic field was 'education using metaverse contents' in engineering, 'metaverse classroom' in social science, 'element of metaverse environment' in art and sports science, 'digital innovation in the world through metaverse' in interdisciplinary science, 'historical content through augmented reality elements' in humanities, 'teacher's perception of reality in metaverse' in pedagogy. The current state of research on metaverse identified are useful for interdisciplinary and convergence research to utilize metaverse in future education.
