Abstract

The article is devoted to topical issues regarding trends in the development of distance education. The development of education today is associated with an increase in the level of its information potential. One of the achievements that significantly influenced the educational process throughout the world was the creation of distance learning. This form of education is relevant today. The implementation of distance education in the teaching process opens up broad prospects for both teachers and students. Essentially new in educational activities is that the students become active members of communication: they take part in communication processes, interact with resources. It is understood now that distance learning has an enormous information capacity and not less impressive service. The emphasis is on the role of the teacher in on-line educational system, which places special demands on the level of professional training and qualifications of specialists involved into organizing and conducting various distance learning courses. A key figure influencing the quality of distance learning is the teacher. He should not only be well versed in the discipline, but also possess the necessary skills for organizing training activities in a modern high-tech educational environment. They become consultants and tutors of educational groups. The article presents an analysis of the history of tutoring, highlights the key points of the changing role of the tutor in education, identifies promising areas for changing its role in the distance education system; describes the model of interaction of participants in the process of distance learning, highlighted the types of functional activities of a teacher of higher education institutions of traditional and distance education.
