Abstract

The paper deals with punctuation features in sentences with the connective to est’. The data of the Russian National Corpus shows an increase in the frequency of using the connective at the beginning of an independent sentence, after a period. The paper discusses the differences between to est’ in the middle and at the beginning of sentences: the ability to express certain relationships between text fragments, syntactic conditions of the use, the conditions under which the fragment introduced by to est’ cannot be formed as part of the preceding sentence and follow after a comma.
