Abstract

The purpose of this study is to conduct theoretical investigations on the concepts of emotional labor, which is one of the variables that attract a lot of attentions recently. There have been insufficient studies in providing conceptual summaries on emotional labor and theoretical grounds compared to the frequency of its uses. Many studies revealed that the concept of emotional labor has been developed based on the concept introduced by Hochschild(1983). However, few empirical studies have been done based on sex role theory, social identity theory, and self-determination theory which can explain emotional labor. This study intends to identify the connection between the concept of emotional labor and related theories, and suggest what kind of research should be implemented in the studies of emotional labor.
