Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the economic impact of the winter training industry in the south coast by using input-output analysis and further suggest effective operation strategies of winter training needed for regions. This study investigated the direct ripple effect of winter training in the south coast by analyzing winter training results provided by each local government. Inducement coefficients of winter training industry in a single market were extracted and the indirect economic impact of winter training industry in the south coast was identified by national input-output tables suggested by the Bank of Korea(2010). The results of this study are as follows. First, the number of sports teams and participants coming to the south coast for winter training was increased by 32.4% and 60.9%, respectively, in 2014 than that of 2009. It suggests quantitative increase of the winter training industry in the south coast. Second, the direct economic ripple effect of the industry was calculated as 141.2 billion won in 2014. It was increased by about 27.2 billion won than that of 2009. Third, the indirect ripple effect by input-output analysis was 391.7 billion in 2014 and the total employment effect was 185.3 persons. In conclusion, considering the economic ripple effect and scale, this study confirmed that the winter training industry in the south coast has been established as a key driver of the regional sports industry.
