Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to identify mediational roles of middle school students’ character between their self-determination and sociality in physical education settings.<BR> Method: To this end, samples of middle school students, who had been participating in physical education classes in Seoul and Gyeong-gi Province, were collected. The sample size used in convenience sampling was 620. Statistical methods used in analysis were frequency analysis, exploratory & confirmatory factor analysis, reliability analysis, descriptive statistical analysis, correlation, and structural equation analysis using SPSS 22.0 and AMOS 20 program. In addition, this study conducted bootstrapping in order to verify statistical significance of mediation effect.<BR> Results: The results of this study were as follows. First, middle school students’ self-determination had a positive impact on their character. Second, middle school students’ self-determination had a positive influence on their sociality. Third, middle school students’ character had a positive effect on their sociality. Fourth, middle school students’ character played a role in mediating the relationship between their self-determination and sociality.<BR> Conclusion: The self-determination of middle school students participating in physical education class shows that personality and sociality improve. Personality is a leading factor in improving sociality, and personality can be mediating in the relationship between self-determination and sociality. It can further improve sociality as well.
