Abstract

The purpose of this study was to empirically identify roles of youth athletes’ resilience in relationships between coach-athlete relationships and burnout. To this end, samples of middle and high school athletes in Seoul metropolitan area and Chung-Cheong Provinces were collected. The sample size used in convenience sampling was 348. Statistical methods used in analysis were frequency analysis, exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis, reliability analysis, descriptive statistical analysis, correlation, and structural equation analysis using SPSS 22.0 and AMOS 20 program. In addition, this study conducted bootstrapping in order to verify statistical significance of mediation effect. The results of this study were as follows. First, youth athletes’ coach-athlete relationships had a positive impact on their resilience. Second, youth athletes’ coach-athlete relationships had a negative influence on their burnout. Third, youth athletes’ resilience had a negative effect on their burnout. Fourth, youth athletes’ resilience played a partial role in mediating the relationship between their coach-athlete relationships and burnout.
