Abstract
This paper aims to introducing the method of fieldwork and research in perceptual dialectology by the case study of Yixing dialects. We carried out a elaborate geolinguistic research and fieldwork of perceptual dialectology. By mapping the consciousness of Yixing dialects, we visualized the labels of dialectal regions in folk mentality. Furthermore, by analyzing the consciousness of dialects in isolated parts of Yixing and the opposition between the western and eastern parts, we find out that the borders of several consciousness coincide with the mountains,rivers, and administrative boundaries, but partly have a abrrations of the production boundaries. We also discovered the opposition between the western and eastern parts is gradually declining, and other phenomena. At last,we discussed the significance of perceptual dialectology and the goals of our research.
