Abstract
The principle of human dignity is one of the most important attribute of human rights. A person himself as a bearer of this value of dignity must respect the dignity of others, based on his actions and dealings with them. It is one of the universally accepted principles among nations and peoples. Despite this consensus, there were many opinions about it, especially about its sources, its dimensions, and whether it was confined to man as the most honorable creature, or shared by others. In light of the emergence of the principle of human dignity in many laws, constitutions and regulations issued by international institutions and organizations, with the absence of a comparative study between the understanding issued by Western philosophers and the Seertul Nabi, meaning Islamia Shariah, on the subject of human dignity. It is important that such study be conducted to clarify the extent of congruence or difference between the two understandings, dimensions, scope and consequences for finding the better ways contributing to human respect and dignity.
