Abstract
This study examines the ichidanka aspects of nidankatsuyo verbs in Japanese textbooks from the Joseon Dynasty. Based on a review of Japanese textbooks from this period, as well as Japanese and Christian literature, the following are results. The ichidanka aspects of nidankatsuyo verbs, which had not yet appeared in the 15th century book 『Iropa』, were first attested in the original version of『Cheopheasineo』 in the 17th century. However, it is limited in some types of verbs. It appeared variously in 18th century literature, especially in the book 『Waeeoyuhae』. Sometimes both ichidan verbs and nidan verbs exist in the same text. Since ichidan verbs are used more often than nidan verbs, there is a transitional period of the ichidanka aspects of nidankatsuyo verbs. Data from Japanese textbooks from the Joseon Dynasty period in the 18th century show that, it is still in progress. Moreover, there are more examples of the ichidanka aspects of nidankatsuyo verbs in simoichidan than kamiichidan. The ichidanka aspects of nidankatsuyo verbs in Japanese textbooks from the Joseon Dynasty are consistent with the history of Japanese grammar at that time.
