Abstract

The article is devoted to semantic description of the English phraseological units with the animalistic component. The paper aims to ascertain the structural arrangement and to describe the component structure of these phraseological units. Originality of the study lies in the fact that for the first time the author suggests a classification of the analysed phraseological units according to the connotative meaning of their components. The researcher has estimated the percentage of the most frequent grammatical structures, revealed the phrase-formative potential of phraseological units with the animalistic component and provided a detailed description of their meanings illustrated with numerous examples.
