Abstract

The purpose of the current study was to examine the relationships among mother’s rearing attitude perceived by university students, university life adjustments, and academic stresses. Questionnaire survey was administered for participants who were 202 male and female KAIST students and multiple regression analyses were conducted to achieve this purpose. The results were as follows. First, one of the results indicated that mother’s rearing attitudes significantly effected on their university life adjustments. Speaking in details, affection versus hostility and rationality versus irrationality sub-scales among mother’s rearing attitudes significantly affected their university life adjustments. The results suggest that affectional and rational parenting attitudes of mother play a positive role to increase their university life adjustments, Second, it was shown that mother’s rearing attitudes significantly effected on their academic stresses. Rationality versus irrationality sub-scale among mother’s rearing attitudes had a significantly negative effect on their academic stresses. This means that the higher the level of maternal rational attitude, the lower academic stress and the higher the level of maternal irrational attitude, the higher academic stress.
