Abstract
The paper aims to trace semantic evolution of the basic value “Labour” in the Russian linguo-culture. The study is based on comparing results of associative experiments provided in lexicographical sources (Russian Associative Dictionary and Bilingual Associative Dictionary) and two associative experiments conducted by the author. According to sociologists, a national value system has a stable structure. Scientific originality of the research involves experimental justification of a provision on transformation of basic social values. The research findings are as follows: evolution of the basic value “Labour” manifests itself in the following ways: changes in quantitative ratio of reactions; development of additional conceptual meanings “career growth” and “financial component”, which indicates that attitude to labour as a basic value is no longer relevant.
