Abstract

At present, research on expanding the raw material base for new building materials appears to be relevant. In world practice, the development of new locally-based materials takes place alongside a detailed analysis of existing deposits in order to determine possible means of their application. The present study is focused on the possibility of obtaining thermal insulation composites based on peat obtained from the Gusevskoye deposit (Tyumen Oblast) and tripoli from the Sukholozhskoye deposit (Sverdlovsk Oblast) were studied. Results of thermo gravimetric and laser diffraction granulometric analyses determining the chemical, thermal and thermo physical properties composition of the obtained raw materials are presented. Particle size was determined using a Fritsch Nano Tex laser analyser with a range of 0.01–2100 μm. A liquid glass suspension was obtained by hydrothermal leaching in order to obtain kinetic thermal decomposition parameters. Taking into account the chemical and mineralogical features of the peat from Gusevskoye deposit (Tyumen Oblast) and the tripoli from Sukholozhskoye deposit (Sverdlovsk Oblast), the liquid glass is obtained with the main component presented by opal rock. A method for producing a thermal insulation material is developed. The hydrothermal leaching method of tripoli appears to be resource-saving, less energy-consuming and, as a result, more economically feasible as compared to the classical method of liquid glass production. The resulting material is established to be environmentally-friendly and energy efficient.
