Abstract

The purpose of the article is to analyze the functions of color correction in cinematography and on television in the system of organizing visual design of audiovisual works, to find out the peculiarities of its use in various films and determine the ways of its implementation with the help of color correction software. The research methodology consisted in the application of visual analysis of films, which allowed for understanding the basic functions of color correction in modern audiovisual works. The scientific novelty of the work lies in the first attempt to analyze the connection between the development of color correction technologies and creative color design, as well as to consider the basic principles of the work and use of color correction software, and describe the process of computerized color correction. Conclusions. Resorting to color correction, the director and the colorist should make sure that the viewer understands their creative idea. Color brings certain emotional and semantic associations into the image. Color can be used both as an illustrative and creative means, a dramatic element or a visual symbol. The evolution of color correction technologies has gone from simple colorization of the film and electronic video correction to modern color correction software, which gives the director and the colorist virtually unlimited opportunities for creativity. Thus, the analysis of the development of color correction technologies allowed the author to analyze their influence on the creative decisions of filmmakers, which is essential for the practice of visual design of the film.
