Abstract

Problem and goal. The increase in the number of people with autism spectrum disorders both in Russia and around the world, including those with Asperger’s syndrome and highly functional autism, poses a problem of higher education accessibility for such students. Their ability to study depends most on the communicative competence of university teachers. The goal of research. The research aims at developing a program to improve the university teacher communicative competence in the field of interaction with autistic students based on foreign recommendations and generalization of the Russian experience. Methodology (materials and methods). Methods of pedagogical communication with autistic students are developed using recommendations of the Autistic Self Advocacy Network (ASAN), an active approach to the development of university teacher communicative competence, requirements of focusing on practice and reflection for such programs, and a humanistic orientation. Results. The proposed program of teacher professional development can improve not only their communicative competence in the process of interaction with autistic people, but also confidence in their own professionalism, stimulate the desire for professional growth and increase the quality of the educational environment at the university.
