Abstract
Objectives This study is a scoping review aimed at examining the domestic research trends on subjective happiness of Korean adolescents. Methods A scoping review was conducted focusing on domestic literature regarding adolescents' subjective well-being. Searches were performed using RISS, DBpia, KISS, and KoreaMed databases, utilizing keywords such as ‘adolescent’, ‘middle and high school students’, ‘middle school students’, ‘high school students’, ‘adolescence’, ‘subjective well-being’, and ‘well-being’. 33 articles were selected for the final analysis. Results The final 33 articles were published between 2007 and 2022. Among them, 29 were secondary data analysis studies, and 4 were cross-sectional studies. The fields in which the research was conducted included social welfare (9 articles), nursing and healthcare (8 articles), child and adolescent studies (5 articles), education (5 articles), and counseling and psychology (3 articles). A total of 40 related factor variables were identified and categorized into individual factors, family environment factors, and school environment factors, with individual factors comprising the highest proportion. Conclusions This study is significant in that it is the first literature review attempted to identify trends in Korean research on the subject of adolescent subjective well-being. It is expected to be used as a basis for developing programs to improve adolescents' well-being. Furthermore, follow-up studies using various research methodologies and expanding the research population are needed to improve adolescents' subjective well-being.
