Abstract

The Schwinger model with its naive lattice fermions and vacuum structure is investigated analytically using unitary transformation and the variational method in the Hamiltonian formalism. The authors calculate the fermion condensate (psi-bar psi) for any coupling constant and fermion mass, and they obtain graceful scaling behaviour.
