Abstract

The article is devoted to analysing the peculiarities of FAMILY concept verbalization in the novel “Persuasion” by the British authoress Jane Austen. The paper aims to identify the whole amount of the English lexical units participating in the verbalization of FAMILY concept in Jane Austen’s novel “Persuasion”. The originality of the study lies in the fact that the authors for the first time provide a detailed analysis of the linguistic means realizing FAMILY concept in Jane Austen’s novel, examine its structural field. The findings indicate that the English family of the mentioned epoch played the key role in a human’s life and had patriarchal nature, because the nucleus of the structural field is the lexeme “father” and near and distant peripheries are represented by the lexemes denoting family members and servants.
