Abstract

This article describes the process of forming the CSTO organization as part of the creation of a system that will ensure collective security. Both the strengths and weaknesses of the international regional organization are considered. They are determined by the specifics of its structure. Referring to the data of the Russian Institute of Contemporary Development, the author lists the following trends: excessive multifunctionality, lack of unity and internal organizational discipline, search for common goals and values, weak positioning in the system of regional and international security structures, lack of a clear system for resolving conflicts in the post-Soviet space. These factors hinder its effective work and often lead to hostilities between the countries participating in the treaty and other incidents.
